Recently I updated my desktop, and I thought I should share the changes. Instead of the stunning snow leopard that I previously had, now I have a simple phrase. Normally, I’m completely against words on my desktop. Words inspire thought, which isn’t what I’m looking for when I have a blank desktop. I want simplicity and calm.
When I stumbled across this wallpaper, I decided that it was ok to break this rule. Whenever I have the urge to complain about something, I simply press F11 to reveal my desktop, and the brilliant words hiding there.
In addition, I moved my dock down to the right corner, using the free utility Dock Spaces. I’ve never been a fan of hiding the Dock, except when I absolutely must have every inch of screen real estate. Ninety-nine percent of the time, it’s a useful tool to have visible. The number of applications sitting in the dock is something I keep to a minimum, of course. Currently I have Finder, Mail, Safari, iCal, and Tweetie. For me, that’s the balance between minimal and functional. In other words, it’s perfect.
