Less is a Premium Feature

Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, reflecting on his frustration with booking a trip online:

At some point in the process I crossed a line: The time to plan and book the trip took longer than it will take to fly across the entire country.

He goes on to say how he would be perfectly willing to pay more to have less options. Scott is on to something, of course. Choices are great, but introducing too many choices and too much complexity can take a simple, enjoyable process and destroy it.

Returning these processes to a simpler form will benefit everyone. Those who “get it” and actually make this happen will be able to charge a premium, and people will come running to sign up.

Less is a premium feature.

Think about this. People will pay more for less.  Less complexity, less confusion, less crap to sift through.  The business opportunity is huge. Who will step up?
