When you see an empty space on your desk, do you fill it? How about when you have an empty spot in your schedule – do you feel obligated to do something?
Why?
Having the urge to fill every empty space and slot of time isn’t strange. But it is unnecessary. Clear workspaces and living spaces are critical to being productive, and being efficient. Clear spaces are also key to lowering your stress level – nothing can stress you out faster than having crap everywhere.

With time, it’s even more important. Yes, there are 24 hours in a day – 8 of which you’re probably sleeping. That doesn’t mean you have to schedule those remaining 16 hours down to the minute. Sure, work has to fit in there, and food, and probably some various chores. But leave yourself some “do-nothing” time. Time where you can, well, do nothing. Or something. Anything you want.
Don’t fill up an empty space just because it’s there. Empty space is a wonderful thing, just the way it is.
