SingleTasker Saturday is a semi-regular feature here at The Simple Llama. I feature an item that does, well, just a single task. These items go against everything I believe in, and are meant for everyone’s amusement. I don’t intend to purchase any of the SingleTaskers, and I don’t recommend that you do either.

Normally on SingleTasker Saturdays, I feature an absurd product. An item that does just a single, very specific thing; something that doesn’t need a special item all for itself.

Today, I’m featuring an item that performs just a single function – but it’s an extremely common function. That item, of course, is the calculator.

We need to perform basic calculations all the time. Why, then, do I call the calculator a SingleTasker? Look around right now. There’s a very high chance that, within arm’s reach, there’s another item that can handle all your computing needs.

Computers and cell phones render the calculator obselete.

Between computers being everywhere, and nearly every cell phone having a calculator built right in, why do we need standalone calculators?

Hi there - could you help spread the word about The Simple Llama? This is a new site, and I could really use your help in getting my work out to new readers. If you would send someone a link, email, or even mention it to your friends, I would appreciate it.

“ZOMG What’s the emergency?”, you ask.

“ZOMG You have an email!” Is the reply from the envelope-shaped box.

This week’s SingleTasker is none other than the legendary Margarita Maker. While some may use the well-rounded device we all know as the Blender, the truly dedicated may choose to go the extra mile when it comes to his or her precious Margaritas. Ordinary blenders ( you know, the magical device that can mix up just about anything ) aren’t good enough. No sirree, a whole separate device is needed to mix up ice, alcohol, and margarita mix. Why a separate device? Why not? Can’t we all use yet another electronic gadget in our kitchen, taking up counter space?

Probably more than I should, given my time constraints. But I’ve already banged out nearly 1,500 tweets, so I can profess to being a Twitter-holic. It would seem that the device featured on today’s Singletasker Saturday is made just for me. Meet the TwitterPeek. While it may look like a smartphone, I can assure you, it’s no such thing. The TwitterPeek does one thing, and one thing only – lets you access Twitter.

I’ll give you a moment to take all that functionality in.

Got it?

Just to clarify: No phone calls. No SMS. No Email. No general web access. All you get is the ability to read tweets, create tweets, and search tweets. That’s it. All for the bargain price of $200 ( lifetime service included ). Oh, and you have to lug the thing around, in addition to your cell phone, which can probably already handle your Twitter needs.

For all those strawberry eaters out there ( I’m not one, thankfully ), I don’t know how you’ve lived without the Strawberry Slicer. This incredible gadget has the potential to change your life forever. You see, this magical creation slices your strawberries for you.

Yes, you read that correctly. It slices your strawberries. Unbelievable.

Some may think, Why not use that sharp blades instrument we call a knife? And you could, but that would just be silly. Instead, it’s better to buy yet another single-tasker, and take up yet more space in an already overcrowded kitchen.

Besides the space and clutter, this incredible device will only set you back $6 – how can you say no?

I know, you’re thinking “But Llama, couldn’t I just smell it?” And you could, if you wanted. But that takes work, and doesn’t involve buying yet another gadget to help fill your kitchen drawers. Today I introduce a brilliant device to you – the SensorFreshQ Food Safety Tester.

Rather than smelling the food yourself, the SensorFreshQ will do it for you. By measuring the amount of bacteria-produced gasses above the food, this amazing device can do the smelling for you. Green light means continue, and red light means throw the food away or your spleen will burst. Sure, it takes about a minute, rather than the fraction of a second it would take you to inhale. But that’s not important, because this device smells the food for you. Did I mention it smells the food for you? Surely that’s worth the $90 asking price, and the space in your kitchen.

Either you forgo the umbrella and get soaked, or you fumble like crazy, wishing you had a third hand.

I don’t intend to purchase any of the SingleTaskers, and I don’t recommend that you do either.

Continuing with the banana theme, this SingleTasker Saturday brings you a wondrous device. No self-respecting kitchen should be without this magnificent creation, really. When you free your banana from the safety of its Banana Bunker, chances are good that you may want to slice it. Nothing beats a bowl of cereal with sliced bananas on top.

But how do you slice the banana?

Your first though might be to use a knife. That, however, would be absurd. Can you imagine – making all those individual cuts? You could be cutting the banana for literally 15 seconds. Unacceptable. Fortunately, the Banana Slicer exists, and it solves all your problems. Well, all of your banana slicing problems, in any case.

Sit your banana on the counter, and press the banana slicer over it, and presto! What previously took as much as 15 seconds, now takes just 3. Well, 3 seconds, and space in your already crowded kitchen drawers. But once you’ve sliced bananas using the Banana Slicer, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it.

Have you ever been toasting some bread in the morning, and wishing, just wishing so hard, that you could write your family a note? You, my friend, are in luck. Write your note on this Toast Note Thingy ( It has no name that I can see ), and when your family members get up, they will see your note! Wow!

That’s right, don’t bother talking to your spouse or children. Write them a note on the toaster. What could be better? I’m glad you asked that. This could be better.

Yes, the note actually copies itself onto the toast. So not only will the note be plain as day on top of the toaster, the recipient can’t help but read it whilst they eat their toast.

Amazing.

The first in what I hope to be a long line of SingleTaskers is the Banana Bunker. Dear reader, have you ever experienced the dreaded Banana Damage? I can see you nodding your heads from here. We’ve all experienced it, and it’s horrible. Well I’m here to tell you, those days are behind us now. The Banana Bunker has come to save the day.

Oh yes, the Banana Bunker will keep your precious fruit safe from just about any terrible thing that can happen to a banana. The cost? Just $5.99 each. Or for the truly thrifty, you can purchase a 5 pack in a variety of colors for just $24.95. Twenty five bucks, and of course, adding that much clutter to your already bursting kitchen. A small price to pay, if you ask me.
